Please describe your project in more detail.

Over the course of the past two years, we have been successful in raising funds to facilitate for you swimming lessons for all of our 72 second-grade students. This experience has become a tradition in our school culture and is one of the many aspects of our outdoor leadership class that empowers our students to continue engaging in the outdoor activities for years to come. However, this opportunity is constantly in danger of being lost. Funding is a constant challenge for our outdoor leadership class in that is not particularly sustainable and depends entirely on the generosity and interest of our second grade families. This year we are asking the outdoor foundation and outdoor nation to help us seek this funding and ensure that all students have equitable access to safe and effective swimming instruction. With support from Penninsula Family YMCA, The San Diego junior lifeguard foundation , and our High Tech Elementary community, we hope to culminate this project for students by teaching them to surf, kayak, stand up paddle board, and boogie board through an event known as bridge to beach. Through being connected to outdoor experiences, we believe that all students have a greater understanding of their impact on the environment, and are therefore more willing to protect the places where we play. Over the course of the past two years, we had successfully facilitate his experience or two grade levels of students and hope to continue to do so for years to come.
