Please describe your project in more detail.

All third grade students from Oak Hill Elementary, an under-served school in Escondido, CA, will participate in a conservation education program in the outdoor classroom of the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological reserve, located on the coast 25 miles west of the school. This would increase San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy’s partnership from five to six schools in the Escondido Union School District.

Field trips provide opportunities for students to connect to the natural resources in their watershed, while meeting the Next Generation Science Standards that promote hands-on project-based learning that is relevant to the students.

Students will learn about the unique adaptations of local plants and animals that allow them to survive. Students will also have an opportunity to experience how plants and animals live in a variety of habitats, and when those habitats change, the organisms that live there are affected.  A follow up student project will engage students in actions that help maintain diverse and healthy ecosystems.

Your investment provides field trip transportation and inspires lifelong conservation attitudes that will transform behaviors for generations to come.

125 - 3rd grade students
