Please describe your project in more detail.

The aim of this project is to provide the opportunity for boys to experience the outdoors through active participation while they gain knowledge and an appreciation for the natural world. Our project is to summit Harney Peak, part of the Black Elk National Wilderness, in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Harney is the highest peak east of the Rocky Mountain's at a touring 7,244 ft about sea level. Summiting Harney Peak consists of a hour drive to Sylvan Lake in the heart of the Black Elk Wilderness. The trail to the summit of Harney Peak requires a three-mile hike through touring Black Hills Spruce trees and Ponderosa Pines. Along the hike, there are also some magnificent natural granite spires reaching over 150 feet tall that offer some outstanding rock climbing for another trip. Once at the summit, participants will get a bird's eye view of the Black Hills and surrounding areas, including the Badlands National Park, Custer State National Park and the Black Hills Forest.
